So much of writing involves who's speaking and what is he/she doing. I've turned to a resource that includes the different ways to say "said." Yeah, its gotten to that.
Having written two books and on my way to completing a third, I can say that "said" is one of the most frustrating parts of writing. Not even plotting takes this much effort. I mean, there are only so many ways to say "said." That...said...I want to point out that this is where an author must exercise creative juices to imply a "said" without stating it. This comes in the form of action, or even just making the statment as long as the audience has reference to the character from a previous sentence.
Now, as I sit before my computer, ready to dive into another writing session, I look to my other screen the plethora of "said" patiently waits. The challenge? Not to use it.
