Desperately Seeking An Agent

I bought the renowned Jeff Herman's Guide to Book Publishers, Editors, and Literary Agents 2010 from the bookstore and have begun researching potential agents. I've had positive feedback on the latest novel, which is what I'm currently querying for. This is a long process that requires patience on my part. I know it is just as much timing as it is chance that my work will be considered. So, I'm going to keep at it until I get this thing published.

  1. What sort of novel is it? My wife is an aspiring author as well and seems to be with the "in" crowd of the popular writers of the ...aw crap what's it called?? uh..... urban fantasy... that's it.

  2. It's a paranormal fiction novel, with a strong romantic/adventure theme. The stories in this series will be set mostly in small towns or back country. There will only be one novel set in Los Angeles, which will focus on a female vampire who becomes a pariah among her kind.

    Here's a synopsis:

The trip to Lander, Wyoming is supposed to help Linda find closure after the death of her parents. That’s what she tells herself anyway. In truth she is forced to take a vacation thanks to her boss, Mr. Handyman-can, who one night wanted to mix it with her and make it all taste good. Human Resources urges her to use six weeks of her vacation time while they “sort things out.” Uh-huh. He gets a promotion and she gets forced leave. But she isn’t going to let that get her down. Nope. She is going to sort things out too and finally answer the question, “how in tarnation did I get to this point in my life?”

Linda’s parents vacationed in Lander years ago when she was a little girl. During their visit they encountered the most remarkable blond wolf that appeared from behind the brush and stood perfectly still while her father took a picture of him. That wolf became an iconic figure to Linda. It embodies freedom and strength, so much so that she feels if there is a place where she can release her inhibitions it is there in the same wilderness. Naturally, things don’t turn out as she expects. For an obsessive compulsive planner, this is not acceptable.

From the get go she gets close and personal with wolves. Too close. Too personal. Sure, she is there to see a few trees, get a glimpse of Bambi, maybe a wolf or two, but… from a distance. And then there is Clayton McIntyre, a shaman to boot. The woo-woo coming off the cowboy who claims to be her “true mate,” as he puts it, is more than disconcerting for a bean counter. There is no way she is going to throw herself into the arms of a man claiming to be a werewolf. And on their first date, no less! Nosiree. She has more sense than that. She waits until the second date to acknowledge there is something between them. Okay, maybe by the third she is convinced, but him a werewolf? Really? And it turns out he’s the same blond wolf in the poster-size photo hanging over her bed? Now that is a stretch. That is until he turns into one when three other werewolves try to kill her. It turns out Lander is about to be invaded by werewolves who hate humans. She, a human mated to a werewolf, is caught up in the center of that fight. Meanwhile, skinned corpses are cropping up left and right.

Nope, this is not the impromptu vacation she planned.
